Call NY Senate Leaders: Demand Raise the Minimum Wage for all Workers, no exceptions for tipped workers and no loopholes for Big Business.
As Albany works for a long overdue increase in the minimum wage there are big new loopholes for big business in it that would push our state backwards on minimum wage and labor law for tipped workers. The decision to offer tax breaks to employers who hire teenagers is a total give-away to the fast food industry, will encourage the hiring of teens over adults, and sets a terrible precedent nationally.
Senator Jeff Klein, 518-455-3595
Senator Malcolm Smith, 718-454-0162
Senator Diane Savino, 718-727-9406

I want to urge Senator (Klein, Smith or Savino) to raise the minimum wage for all workers, including tipped workers and get rid of loopholes that are giveaways to big businesses.
Tipped workers are some of the lowest paid workers in our workforce. The poverty rate for tipped workers is three times the poverty rate for the workforce as a whole and the decision to offer tax breaks to employers who hire teenagers is a total give-away to the fast food and other industries who will force out workers when they turn 20 and are too old for the tax break.
A recent poll shows that an overwhelming 80 percent of all New Yorkers, including 61 percent of New York Republicans, support increasing the state minimum wage to $9 per hour.
This should be a no-brainer that Senator (Klein, Smith or Savino) stands with working-class New Yorkers and raises the mimum wage for all New Yorkers.
